India Launched ‘mPassport Police’ Application

One to two weeks are usually required to obtain your passport and police verification. But thanks to technology, now you can have your passport within a few days to enjoy your trip.

For getting a passport, the Police verification step is a crucial component; from time to time, various initiatives have been taken to make it more efficient and easier.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MEA) launched a “mPassport Police app.”  it intends to simplify and fasten the police verification procedure for passport issuing.

This application can be downloaded by only Police personnel. It means police officers will visit passport applicants’ homes to record details for the commencement of the police verification process.

Therefore, on 16 February, on the occasion of Delhi Police’s Raising Day, the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, presented 350 mobile and tablets to the Delhi Police personnel. These tools aimed to make the police report submission and verification process paperless.

According to MEA, the launch of this app aims to cut the police verification period in half, from 15 to 5 days, and as a result, the timeframe for passport issuing would also be shortened.

In 2022, considering the peak increase in demand for Police Clearance Certificates (PCC), the MEA decided to open an online platform known as “Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSKs)” to apply online for PCC across India.

After that, many fake websites were created and the ministry warned passport applicants about that issue.
