Wearing an Apple Watch Ultra Series 7 in 2023

Apple introduced the Apple Watch Ultra in September 2022, a premium version of its Apple Watch. This model has been in development for many years. The Apple Watch Ultra was designed to compete with more costly fitness-focused smart watches like Garmin. It is targeted at athletes who require more battery life and better performance.

Apple claims the Apple Watch Ultra is designed for endurance, exploration and adventure. It is also 4mm larger than its 45mm counterpart, the Apple Watch Series 8.

The Apple Watch Ultra is the first ever redesign. It features a lightweight, aerospace-grade titanium body and flat sapphire crystal faces. A housing for the side button, and an additional physical button on its left side, the Action button, makes it the Apple Watch Ultra.

The Apple Watch Ultra has a brightness of up to 2000 nits. It is therefore easy to see in the sunlight. To make it easily visible in dark or under water, the Action button has been designed in international Orange. It can also activate Workouts and mark segments.

To improve sound quality, there are three microphones. A beamforming algorithm can capture voice and reduce ambient background noises even in noisy outdoor environments. 86 decibel siren is available to assist with drawing, and there are two SOS patterns.

Apple was able include a larger battery with the larger 49mm case. The Apple Watch Ultra can last up to 36 hours with one charge. With a new low power setting the battery life can be extended to 60hrs for multiday adventuring. Users can complete a 26.2-mile triathlon, which includes a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride and a 26.2-mile run, with the battery lasting long enough.

The Apple Watch Ultra has dual frequency GPS. It combines both the and L5 frequencies. Plus, it features new positioning algorithms. This Apple Watch Ultra has the most precise GPS, offering accurate distance, pace and route data.

The Apple Watch Ultra is able to withstand a greater temperature range in order to accommodate extreme environments. It can withstand temperatures as low as -4°F (-20°C) and as high as 131°F (55°C). The watch is certified according to MIL-STD-810H. This metric is used by military equipment and manufacturers of rugged equipment.

The Apple Watch Ultra is suitable for water sports such as wakeboarding, kitesurfing, and recreational scuba dive. These activities are not possible with the standard Apple Watch models. The certified Apple Watch Ultra to WR100 and EN 13319 is an internationally accepted standard for diving accessories. The Apple Watch Ultra can be used to dive with a depth gauge or a dedicated depth app. This displays current depth, temperature, duration, maximum depth and water temperature.
